A FAQ is an acronym for Frequently Asked Questions. It is commonly used to mean a list of questions and answers that are asked on a particular subject. General - Why does Krapplets have a FAQ? I have decided to produce a FAQ as I have realised I spend a lot of time answering mails that could better be served by a FAQ list. If people can find an answer to a question it will save them time mailing me and save me time replying, that is good for both parties. I will add to this FAQ over time, and when it grows, I will organise it into sections and do an index. For now it will be a flat file though. Of course if you don't find an answer in the FAQ, please feel free to mail me. So, on with the FAQ. General - Year 2000 compliance statement None of the Krapplets programs use or rely on dates in any way. They are as compliant as the underlying operating system allows them to be. Paper - Why won't it change my wallpaper? This is the most commonly asked question I get, so that's why it's first. :-) This is almost always due to an incompatibility with Windows 'Active Desktop'. Active Desktop is a feature(??) added by Microsoft in Internet Explorer 4 and Windows 98. When enabled it prevents users from seeing the changes Paper has made. At present the only solution is to disable the Active Desktop. To do this, right-click your desktop, choose the 'Active Desktop' menu and unclick 'View As Web Page'. Paper - I am using JPEG files and the images look poor. If you use a low-colour display (256 colours) then JPEG images don't look very good. This is because the conversion routine is optimised for displays with higher colours. At present there is no work around, I hope to fix it in the next release. Paper - Why didn't I get any wallpaper files when I downloaded Paper? I only provide the program, it is up to you to find the images. Paper - I have Paper set to 'Change Wallpaper in Order' upon startup and it goes back to the first one each time. This is a bug. There is no known work-around, but it will be fixed in the next release. Paper - Do you support Windows 98? The last code release was made before I had a copy of Windows 98. So I was unable to test it. Since installing 98 I have found a problem with the Active Desktop as mentioned above, therefore I am unwilling to advertise Paper as Windows 98 compliant until this is fixed. Populist - How do you add a sub-entry? I realise this is not the most intuitive part of the program and it is also not explained very well in the documentation, so this question does crop up now and again. First, make a group heading, this is just a normal entry, the next step is what makes it into a group heading. Then, click the entry that you want to be the group heading so that it has the mouse focus. Then type an entry in the 'New Entry' box, and click 'Add'. Your new entry then becomes a sub-entry of the entry you previously clicked (see, I told you it wasn't intuitive). If the entry you want to add is already in the clipboard, just right-click the group heading and click paste. If the entry exists as text in another program, use drag and drop to drag the text onto the group heading. Populist - Sub-entries don't appear on the menu in Windows 98. This appears to be a problem specific to Windows 98. It is also intermittent, not every Windows 98 user gets it. Unfortunately, the only work around is to not use the menu. Try showing the main Populist window and double-click entries to add them, or drag and drop. Populist - Do you support Windows 98? The last code release was made before I had a copy of Windows 98.
